Travel Magnolia has been far too busy traveling these past few months to write posts. My new year’s resolution is to create and maintain a regular schedule. Coming soon: stories on Machu Picchu, Easter Island, Andalusia and Munich! In the meantime, here are a few great exhibits currently on view in New York City where I just spend a few days.

Ai WeiWei

The Public Art Fund citywide installation  Good Fences Make Good Neighbors is on view  until February 11, 2018. The interactive map is a useful guide for finding the pieces large and small(er).

The installation is thought provoking, especially now.

Audubon Mural Project

Take the A Train to 157th Street and spend a few hours wandering around the Washington Heights neighborhood where John James Audubon lived and worked.

 

Under the aegis of the Audubon Society and in conjunction with Gitler &___ Gallery, over 75 artists have painted homage to Audubon and the bird species he loved, many that are now endangered.

 

Be sure to visit the Audubon Mural Project  website to learn more and see additional works; more are being added as locations and funds permit.

 

NB: some works are below eye level and others far above. The map on the website is not completely up-to-date but they are planning to revise it. This list includes addresses.

David Hockney

A stunning exhibit of works by David Hockney spanning his sixty-plus year career is on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through February 2018. From early portraits through his iconic California paintings and up to the present with iPad experiments, the retrospective pays tribute to this amazing artist.
