My gustatory life before Russia did not include herring, or at least not the succulent mouthwatering fish I grew to crave during my time there. Any previous encounters were most likely at overladen buffet tables, with some mysterious white sauce and not of a very high standard. From our first dinner in Moscow and for the next eight days, I made sure to have herring at breakfast, lunch or dinner and sometimes more than once. I am now on a mission to find herring closer to home – after all, it’s not only delicious, it’s good for me!
Stay tuned for more Russian culinary delights in the next Foodie Friday. For more on my Russian adventure, check out Moscow | Red Square and the Kremlin and Moscow | More Highlights.
Mmmm, delicious! Is it pickled, or is that more of a Scandinavian thing?

Marinated and oh so delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. (Helps to take my mind off the election results.)

Mmmm, sounds good! The herring, obviously… Those election results were a little less palatable 😲
