Many believe that January was named for Janus, the Roman god of gates and beginnings, usually portrayed with two faces: one looking back and other forward. It seems only fitting to begin this year with an overview of 2017 and some plans for 2018. With trips spanning four continents and including one of the most remote places on earth, 2017 was a banner year. Scroll down for highlights from the past twelve months and click on links for more info.
Oman

From the turquoise waters off Muscat to the spectacular Jebel Akbar mountains and the expansive Wahiba sands, Oman offers something for everyone.
Abu Dhabi

One day in Abu Dhabi only whet my appetite. I can’t wait to return especially now that the Louvre Abu Dhabi is finally open!
Dubai

Dubai may not get enough respect. There is so much more to this emirate than skyscrapers, the photo above notwithstanding.
Peru’s Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu

The Sacred Valley is the icing on Machu Picchu’s cake, so to speak. Be sure to allow several days to explore this incredible shangri-la.

Rapa Nui
Also known as Easter Island, this 63 square-mile piece of land in the middle of nowhere captivated us.
Spain

Andalusia has so much going for it – and I will be going back soon!
Germany

A tale of two cities in Germany: Berlin and Munich. So much to see and share! Close readers may notice that I have not yet written about my travels in Peru, Chile, Spain and Germany! Stay tuned as I continue to look back and forward over the next few months before my next adventure in Bhutan, followed by trips to France and England!

Thank you so much for strolling through my posts. I finally found the post about the surfers in Munich. The post is called ” The water that carries you”, published September 2, 2017. I know I had a longer post earlier on, but can’t find it myself.
