St. Mark’s Square with the its Basilica, numerous caffès and the Doge’s Palace is thronged with tourists year-round. However, there are wonderful neighborhoods to explore where the Venetians live and play. Whether you are going to Venice for the Biennale (through November 22, 2015) or just to enjoy one of the most beautiful cities on earth, make sure to visit the lesser known areas of Dorsoduro, and Santa Croce. These photos are just a few of those taken on my most recent trip when I spent many hours wandering around far from the madding crowd.
another great post about traveling!!

Venice has been on my “revisit” agenda for several years now. You’ve helped bring it higher on my list. I spent time in the less tourist-heavy neighborhoods, wandering and getting blissfully lost. It is a magic place.

I love the Donna Leon mysteries set in Venice. These photos give me a wonderful idea of some of the places mentioned in her books.
